Meriwest Launches Annual Essay Competition for High School Students

SAN JOSE, CA, October 2, 2006 - Meriwest Credit Union, one of Silicon Valley's largest financial institutions, is looking for high school students to enter their Annual Essay Competition. Students must complete an essay of a minimum of a 1,000 words by answering the following question: What does it mean to be financially responsible? All students eligible to win a cash prize according to their grade level by winning first, second, and third place respectively. The highest amount of cash a student can win in this competition is $1,000.
"We believe that this competition enables students in the community we serve the chance to shine. We also feel it is our responsibility to help these high school students achieve their goals and receive a cash reward for all their efforts in writing great essays!" said Chris Owen, Chief Executive Officer of Meriwest Credit Union.
The Annual Essay Competition is open to high school students between the ages of 13 to 18, with a GPA of 2.0 or higher, as well as who live or work in Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco counties or Tucson, Arizona. Students who do not live or work in these counties, but are existing Meriwest members, or are eligible for membership are also able to enter the competition. To participate, all applications, essays and verification of GPA and grade level need to be mailed to any Meriwest Financial Center location or to Meriwest Credit Union, P.O. Box 530953, San Jose, Ca. 95153-5353, Attention: Sandra Citrigno, Corporate Communications Specialist by Friday, December 22, 2006 at 6pm.
