The donation is related to the new San Ramon Financial Center, in which Meriwest contributed $10 for each new membership started during the financial center's grand opening period.
The funds will be used to support the Senior Brown Bag program at the Food Bank. The Brown Bag program provides nutritious groceries twice a week to low-income seniors throughout the Contra Costa and Solano communities.
"The Food Bank is grateful for the generosity of Meriwest as they become part of the Contra Costa community," said Larry Sly, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano Counties. "The $500 we have received for the New Member promotion in San Ramon will allow us to provide $3,000 worth of food to our neighbors in need. Meriwest is showing how people and businesses, working together, can make a difference in our community."
"This is another great example of Meriwest Credit Union giving back to the communities that we serve," said Curtis Portwood, the San Ramon Financial Center manager. "The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano was selected as it has a long history of being able to leverage the funds they receive, and help a great number of families and individuals get access to food and nutrition education."
