Meriwest Credit Union Announces the Results of Special 8 Month 8% CD - Celebrates New Member Wealth and Prosperity

SAN JOSE, CA - Meriwest Credit Union, one of the largest credit unions serving Silicon Valley, the Greater Bay Area and Tucson, Arizona announced the results of a special certificate of deposit promotion. During the "888" promotion, Meriwest Credit Union offered an 8 month, 8.00% APY certificate that had a minimum and maximum balance of $800. The certificate was offered from August 8th 2008 through August 31st.

As a result of the 23 day promotion, Meriwest Credit Union increased its membership by 139 new members. The total ending balance in the special 8 month CD's was over $110,000. In addition to this, over $1.1 million was deposited into additional savings products such as basic savings accounts, checking, money market accounts, and other certificates of deposit. New members also generated over $75, 000 in new loan balances.

"The idea of our "888" CD was based upon the Chinese numerological concept of the number 8 being an especially prosperous and lucky number. It also tied in nicely with the start of the Olympics in Beijing," said Tony Cortez, Vice President of Marketing at Meriwest Credit Union, "Over a very short period we drew in many new members and some significant new share balances. We periodically offer this type of CD as a great intro/starter product for new members. This promotional certificate encourages them to start saving, while realizing a much 'higher than market' rate on their money. At the same time, they can discover all the other products and services Meriwest Credit Union is known for, and enjoy the benefits of being a part of a credit union."
