Meriwest Exemplifies the Motto of “People Helping People”

Together as one! Your neighbors, your friends, your community … as a local, community-based credit union, Meriwest knows first-hand that the closer you are to a community the better you’re able to understand their needs—We are truly People Helping People as exemplified by the impact that Meriwest Credit Union and our employees have had on the community. Below are some highlights of our efforts in 2021:

  • 100% of employees volunteered 1,030 hours to help others. 20% of staff volunteered or donated to more than 1 charitable event.
  • The Meriwest Team donated a record $32,604.00 to various nonprofits and schools!
  • Meriwest funded two grants from the Federal Home Loan Bank of $1,075,000 for Project Hired and CityTeam. Project HIRED is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to assist individuals with disabilities to gain and to sustain employment. Project HIRED was created with the commitment to empower job seekers to above all, focus on ability. The grant to them will be used to implement a year-long financial education and life skill series that Meriwest will participate in as facilitators. CityTeam’s grant will be used to remodel and add additional living quarters to support women and their minor children who are facing challenges in their lives.
  • Meriwest sponsored over $50,000.00 towards Charitable events with 18 Non-Profits that provide food relief, supported those facing this challenging health crisis and disenfranchised families that were facing homelessness. Thank you to all that volunteered at these fundraisers that included Hunger@Home, Second Harvest, Shop a Cop Foundation, African American Community Services Agency, Mexican Heritage Plaza and Sacred Heart.
  • Meriwest participated in 184 workshops educating a record 8,058 community residents.
  • Meriwest sponsored 6 successful and well attended Community Meetings with our Business Partners, CatalyzeSV and the County of Santa Clara in San Jose, Milpitas and Cupertino to discuss Affordable Housing Projects and provide the public opportunity to provide feedback.
  • Meriwest received huge thanks from Shop A Cop and the Family Giving Tree for the Toys donated by you to families they serve. You made a great Christmas for kids that may not have otherwise received any presents. Our donations and sponsorship supported 50+ kids.

A gift of time, talent, or financial resources is a reminder of the work we do here at Meriwest and our dedication to our community — and therefore, a huge “Thank You” is in order to every one of our employees for supporting these efforts in our community during such a difficult year. It is truly a wonderful gift to give back when and where we can—and it demonstrates how Meriwest exemplifies the Credit Union motto of “People Helping People”.
